Give Your Body And Mind A Break. Relaxation

Make sure that you practice the material we covered this past week on using all your senses to help you reach your goals.

Let's move on to today's topic -- relaxation .

Even a die - hart, determined, focused individual needs to unwind and relax in order to stay healthy and productive.

Along with your goal reaching strategies it is extremely important that you schedule some time to just relax.

Now relaxing means different things to different people., but the point is to find the activity that you enjoy and brings you relaxation.

People that do not include a time out, or time to relax will find that sooner or later, they burn out. So pick something you enjoy doing & make time for it. Relaxation is important.

Some may be inclined to say "well I love my work, so I'll continue to do it" -- wrong approach.

You will find that if you step back from your work or you tasks and focus simply on relaxing that you will gain insight into things that you sis not notice before.

For instance, we know that stepping back from a problem we can't seem to crack, will give us a fresh perspective and often leads to a solution. You have heard the expression "he's too close to the problem to see it clearly" --

Well that applies to all of us when all we do is work or focus 100% of our energy on a goal. Rest (relaxation) has to be part of the package.

Read your book, take your walk, ride your bike, take that drive, visit that friend, see that movie, go to that concert, bring yourself that dress, enjoy your favorite meal, take that vacation, take that nap, spend some quality time with the ones you love, whatever it is that makes you relax ---- just do it.

Empowering Yourself Take That First Step

Today we look at the essence of this Blog, which is about empowering yourself. We are going to concentrate on that important first step.

This will be a review & reinforcement for some and a new beginning for our many new followers. One of the key components of this empower yourself Blog is to keep things simple.

Here we go. You want to make a change in your life. Good that's a start, recognizing that a change is needed.

Now comes a crucial point in your life; doing something about it -- or as we like to call it taking that first step.

Many people will stop at this point because of fears or doubts. Empowering yourself, requires that you take that first step

For without action nothing will change.

Note -- Some of you will take massive action on the road to empowering yourselves while others will take smaller steps.

The fact that you are reading this Blog is a step --- when you come back again, that will be another step. So you see one small step at a time will empower you ---- just keep taking those steps.

For those of you who are new to this empowering yourself Blog, please read our prior postings which give you a step by step process for reaching your goals.

Remember, that empowering yourself is a step by step process.

Once you decide in your mind that you need to change ---- write down where you are headed, in other words, your goals.

Why is this important? Because this small step will start the process of reinforcing the fact that you are serious about your change. This small step will help you to focus on what you need to do in order to empower yourself.

Note - Another component of this empower yourself Blog is repetition of things that are good for you until they become second nature.

OK now that we got the basics out of the way --- let's move on.

You need to look at your written goals on a daily basis, for a number of reasons.

1. To reinforce your commitment to change.

2. To insure that you can measure your progress towards your goals.

3. To make any minor adjustments to your goals.

4. So that you can break down your main goal into smaller sub - goals.

Yes it requires a bit of work & commitmentto empower yourself.

Don't be afraid or discouraged, instead get excited as you begin this journey of empowering yourself --

How To Maintain Your Motivation

Motivation, is a word we hear a lot about. But, how do you maintain your motivation once you start heading towards your goals?

There are different methods that will work for different people. Some people are self-sustaining motivators, while others require that occasional push from someone else.

Those that are self-sustaining will maintain & increase their motivation by:

1. Reading books, quotes.

2. Listening to motivational tapes.

3. Viewing motivational videos, pictures, posters.

4. Following motivational blogs, newsletters, websites.

In addition, they have learned to focus on their goals. {we will go into more detail on "focus" tomorrow}

If you are a person that needs a little push ---- you're in luck --- because that is why we are here. This website is here to help you stay on course.

Here is what you need to do.

1. Make sure that your goal(s) are written down. Do not put this off. Make sure your goals are specific.

2. Start to get the tools you will need for this journey. {look at items 1 thru 4 of the list above} If you don't have the money to buy books, video, tapes go to your local library they have great resources for free. But just start.

3. The secret is to start. Do not worry about perfection (getting the right book, tape or video) You will gain something from each step you take.

Your motivation will increase as you learn a little more, because that will push you a little closer toward your goals. Do not over think every step; take action

You will find that as you take these small steps your anticipation and joy will increase. And as you start to understand the how and why of staying motivated --- you too will become a self - sustaining motivator.

Note Something else that we will cover in the days to come --- sharing what you learn & giving back -- when you help others -- you also help yourself. Think about it.

As always we like to keep things simple. Just the fact that you are viewing this Blog shows that you have the motivation needed to start your journey towards your goals.

Take one step at a time and you will get there.

Until tomorrow, keep walking

The Importance Of Your Focus

Today I want to reemphasize the importance of guarding what you FOCUS ON.

One of the most important points that I have made is that your focus has a tremendous influence on your beliefs & thus on what action you take or fail to take.

Please understand that your focus, your beliefs, your feelings, your action, your words, are all interconnected; one affects the others.

You will recall that if you focus on something ---- anything negative --- you continue to relive it in your mind & your body reacts by experiencing all the discomfort, pain, sadness, fears associated with those thoughts.

I have recommended several times ---- that a way to break out of this cycle of fear, is to engage your whole body in "action" ----- by engaging all your senses, you push out the negative thoughts & you start to "focus" on something positive.

**Your focus will determine your "state of being" in other words, how you feel.

AND how you feel will determine how you see your day and what you do. **

This is the KEY for those of you who are still not sure Stop focusing on reasons why you can't --------- focus on what you can do.

That is your start.

A picture is worth a thousand words so watch, listen & apply.

Stay with the plan BELIEVE and you too will have better days.

Note Let me offer a word of caution --- some of your friends & relatives will try to dissuade you from following your goals.

They may do it because they don't believe that you can accomplish it or simply because they do not believe it is possible.

So prepare yourself, but don't be discouraged. Just don't Quit.

Condition your mind to believe in your ability to succeed

Strengthen Your Beliefs

Today we will discuss ways to strengthen your beliefs.

You should think of your beliefs as something that is alive. In order to strengthen you beliefs, they need to be fed.

And as with any living organism, the food that you feed your beliefs matters. Let's stop here for a moment and look at this a little closer.

Your beliefsget fed by all your senses.

For example, if you listen to negative criticism ¨C that feeds your beliefs in a negative way.

If you spend your time thinking about the difficulties in reaching your goals --- that does not strengthen your beliefs.

OK on to the correct way to feed your beliefs.

1. Surround yourself with positive people. If you find yourself surrounded by negative people, then do your best to limit the time you spend with them.

2. Read positive books, carry one with you so you can read during your free time (bus or train ride, etc)

3. Listen to positive, motivating tapes, MP3s, CDs, radio.

4. Watch empowering movies, shows, videos.

5. Do what ever you can to surround your work space, your study space, your living space with things, objects that empower you. (posters, pictures, photos, quotes, etc)

Ideally, you goal is to insure that what goes into your mind will strengthen you beliefs by providing empowering, inspiring nourishment.

Note You'll be surprised how much negative material is being absorbed by your mind --- without you realizing it.

By taking control of what you feed your mind ---- You are taking control of your future.

Remember if you need motivational posters you can get them right here and your motivating books right here

And as always let me remind you that if you cannot buy a poster or a book, get a book from the library find an old magazine, newspaper and look for an inspiring picture you can cut out. Just Start.

Start to align all your time, your energy, your thoughts, your focus towards your goals -- and amazing things will begin to happen, as you strengthen your beliefs.

Take Control Of Your Focus

Let's continue with our week's topic - "self improvement."

NOTE- In our previous discussions, we talked about ----

1. How To Strengthen Your Beliefs ----

Today we will discuss another important item. Take Control Of Your Focus--- {see July 23, 2009 Blog} when we spoke about focus & "limiting beliefs"

Now what exactly istaking control of your Focus and why is it such a big deal in your journey to self-improvement?

As usual we will keep this simple, and good things need repeating

To begin - your focus - or what you pay attention to ---determines how you think & feel ----- which in turn determines how you act.

Please notice how the steps follow one after the other.

So, in a nutshell, ---if you are paying attention ---(or entertaining thoughts) that are not in your best interest ------Your actions will be likewise.

And if you recall yesterday's discussion ---- you can appreciate that what you put into your mind ---------- will affect your FOCUS.

Are you seeing how all these small steps build upon one another? ---------- Good.

If you are serious about changing you life ------- improving your quality of life --------- than you need to pay attention to that you take control of your focus and empower yourself

Changing your focus involves making changes to the "old You" ----

1. Replace negative "can't do" thoughts with --- the question - OK - how do I do this? That question will give you control of your focus, and take you in a new direction.

2. Surround yourself with "positive --- motivating ---empowering tools", such as books, posters, magazines, movies, activities, that enhance your well being. {see yesterday's blog}

3. Surround yourself with positive people.

Don't be afraid -- Dare To Dream Big - AND - take action

On The Road To Self Improvement

Welcome back. Yesterday we spoke about step #2{take control of your focus} on your self improvement journey.

But before we move on, there is a very important point I need to make.

The road you are on will not always be a straight road. There will be obstacles -- roadblocks --- bumps & detours on your road to self improvement .

The important thing to remember is that you have a road map (you wrote down the benefits of you new goals) to get you there. So when you hit a bump, keep going, follow your map, get back on track.

Note .. Self - Improvement is a journey and as for any journey, you must prepare. It will take a willingness to adjust, and a determination to continue

Let's move on to today's step on the road to self - improvement.

Step # 3 Set a (reasonable) time - line for you goals.

Why a time - line? So you can measure your progress & make adjustments.

Now folks, remember to keep things simple -- what you can do is to breakdown your main goal into smaller sub goals.

This action will make it easier for you to measure your progress, and will make it easier for your mind to visualize the journey.

As you complete one sub-goal and move to the next your momentum will help to feed your determination to complete your journey to self - improvement.

Note --- Make sure you have your books, posters, tapes, CDs videos ¨C whatever you can get to bolster your motivation. Keep feeding your mind good things.

Whenever you have a free moment use it to nourish your mind will empowering nourishment.

I find this next video so powerful, that I want to keep using it to encourage YOU.

Tomorrow I will discuss a little more on how to deal with these obstacles you will encounter.

Until tomorrow, keep walking
