Now this is also a very big topic --- so we will concentrate on ---
things you can do to help you stay motivated on your journey towards your goals.

Let's start with #1 --- What you feed your mind
In order to stay motivated and on course, you must insure that you are nourishing your new goals.
How?
---- By a daily dose of encouragement. One of the easiest ways to do this is by reading inspirational & motivational material.
I have recommended numerous times using the Public Library as a source for great motivational material. There is a great variety of material on motivation, goals, and inspiration available for Free.
Just ask the librarian to help find motivational books of people who have overcome difficult situations.
Reading these books reinforces the fact that others have gone thru & have been successful in situations similar to yours.
If you prefer & can afford to purchase your own book ---- I have suggested books which I have found useful in my life --- visit the Empower Yourself Book store
store for a great selection.
So ---- if you have not done it already ---
Get that book --- start equipping your mind for your journey. Motivation takes work.

Today we will discuss item #2. Focus --- {see July 23, 2009 Blog} when we spoke about focus & "limiting beliefs"
Now what exactly is Focus and why is it such a big deal in your journey to self - improvement?
To begin your focus or what you pay attention to ---determines how you think & feel ----- which in turn affects your motivation and determines how you act.
Please notice how the steps follow one after the other.
So, in a nutshell, --- if you are paying attention ---(or entertaining thoughts) that are not in your best interest ------Your actions will be likewise.
And if you recall yesterday's discussion ---- you can appreciate that what you put into your mind ---------- will affect your FOCUS.
Are you seeing how all these small steps build upon one another? ---------- Good.
If you are serious about changing you life ------- improving your quality of life --------- than you need to pay attention to you focus on
Changing your focus involves making changes to the "old You" ----
1. Replace negative "can't do" thoughts with the question Ok, how do I do this? That question will take your focus in a new direction.
2. Surround yourself with positive --- motivating ---empowering tools, such as books, posters, magazines, movies, activities, that enhance your well being.
3. Surround yourself with positive people.

Today we continue your self - improvement journey.
We start this week discussing a number of steps you need to take to reach your goal.

Let's move on to #3 -- The company you keep ----
If you have been following our Blogs for the last couple of weeks, some of this may sound familiar.
And you are right, you see good things need to be repeated until they become second nature to us.
AND ---- they replace the "old negative habits" that seem to grab a hold of our minds.
The "old you" has to change in order to head in your new direction ------ towards your goals.
You have to take inventory, are you friends & acquaintances headed in your direction ----- or --- are they holding you back from your self improvement journey?
Only you can answer this question ------- Rest assured that you will get criticism and sometimes even hostility when you make a choice to reach for your goals.
We started this week discussing a number of steps you need to take to pump up your motivation & reach your goals.
NOTE In our previous discussions, we have talked about ----

Today we discuss item #5 Making minor adjustments.
Just about everything we do in life needs a little tweaking now & then our goals are no different.
That's why it is important to review your written goals often on your self improvement journey.
These minor adjustments can include a small detour, a time adjustment, an educational course, a vacation, researching for more info.
Note a minor adjustment should never make you "take your eyes off your main goal"
Unfortunately, life does not always allow us a straight path towards our goals, we will run into --- resistance, objections, dream takers, nay-sayers, and just plain old living.
As I have said before This is not a race ------ but a journey ---- one step at a time.
Note It is always easier to deal with a "bump in the road" or "an adjustment" is we have prepared for it.
How you ask?
By being aware of what goes on round you.
Remember the other 4 steps that make up this process, together they prepare you for step #5.
The chains of habit are too light to be felt
Until they are too heavy to be broken.

Don't let the "old bad habits" keep you from moving forward [sap your motivation] on your self improvement journey -----
make your necessary adjustments.
And --- when someone tries to discourage you from working on you self improvement goal ----

To reach a goal, any goal, you need to take action.
Fear is what stops most people from taking action.
Fear of failure, fear of ridicule, fear of rejection, fear, fear, fear.
In fact, the more you think about it, the great the fear gets & the more justification you attribute to your fear.
Big Secret The only want to overcome fear is by taking action.
Let's go back to my previous blogs where I talked about focus & belief if you missed them go to Blog Archives.
You will recall that if you focus on something ---- anything negative ---
you continue to relive it in your mind & your body reacts by experiencing all
the discomfort, pain, sadness, fears associated with those thoughts.
I recommended to you ---- that a way to break out of this cycle
of fear, is to engage your whole body in "action" -----
by engaging all your senses, you push out the negative thoughts
& you start to "focus" on something positive.
NoteThis is why it is so important to have access to empowering books, music, friends, any thing that can give you a dose of encouragement to take action.
Have you ever noticed that sometimes when you are busy ----
you forget that a certain part of your body is aching ----
or if you were feeling sad, you are able to smile?
That's what happens when you engage in something ------
"take action" ---- result is --- that your focus changes ----
your mood changes ---- you are able to move towards a goal.
SO let me repeat ---- if you continue to do the same things you
did in the past, --- You will continue to get the same results.
Look around you ****** others have done it ***** so can you.
BUT you have to start annnnnnd that requires action
Focus on what you want to accomplish ------- Not ---- on
failure. Watch & get motivated to take action.
Note I repeat this is not a race ---- it is a journey ---
take one step at a time, make adjustments and keeping moving
by taking "action."
