The Secret to Success -- Keep a Positive Mental Attitude

How do you keep a positive mental attitude when things go wrong?

Every person on this earth has ups and downs in his/her lifetime. Some events are predictable, and sometimes a negative event will catch you off guard and knock you to the ground.

The important thing is "how you react to, or handle these setbacks."

FACT-people who are optimistic, focusing on strengths and assets rather than weaknesses and liabilities, are better able to maintain mental and physical health, and to overcome any setback they encounter.

**take note that your mental state will impact your physical state.**

What steps can you take to develop a more positive mental attitude?

Let's keep this simple so that you can start applying these principles right away.

1. ***Focus on where you need to go or what you need to do. (your goals)***

Ask yourself-How do I see things?

In other words, what do you focus on? Are you only focusing on the problem?

Are you asking "Why Me?

NOTE --- Your focus will determine your "state of being" — in other words – how you feel.

AND — how you feel will determine how you see your day & the actions you will take.

2. Take Action--

Life does not consist in thinking,

it consists in acting.

Any action that reinforces your "positive mental attitude" such as reading positive material [quotes, books,]

Listening to positive tapes, movies, music Taking other necessary steps towards your goals. Trying again, perhaps using a different approach.

Remember that you will learn some positive lessons even in bad situations -- if you choose to look for them.

3. Don't Give Up & Don't Get Bitter

It is easy to fall into this trap -- becoming overwhelmed and angry at the world when you have a setback. Bitterness & anger will weaken you, both mentally & physically.

You can’t control all the things that happen to you in life, but you can choose how you are going to respond.

Choose to have a positive mental attitude - no matter what-- this will enable you to stay on course towards your goals.

4. Do Not Be Afraid To Ask For Support Or Advice.

Supportive friends will understand when you are going through a rough time and will be there to offer help and encouragement.

Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.

Small people always do that,

that you, too, can become great.

5. Plan -Plan-Plan

Become a better planner [define your goals] -- Make sure that you have clear realistic goals with a timeline {date when you plan to reach these goals}.

You see it is so much easier to stay positive & motivated if you know where you want to go.

Your plan {your goals) is your road-map to your new destination. Don't be discouraged, instead, look for things you can do to improve yourself and your plan.

God grant me the serenity

to accept the things I cannot change;

courage to change the things I can;

and wisdom to know the difference...

This is extremely important if not the most important point--

You have to start nourishing your mind with empowering thoughts to maintain your positive mental attitude.

As a reminder of this, I want you to print the following poem & graphic. I want you to keep them in a place where you can see them every day.

The Don't Quit Poem

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
